Challenging behavior is often misunderstood—but what if it’s not defiance, and instead a sign of lagging executive function skills? In this practical and engaging 4-session series, early childhood educators will explore a new way to understand and respond to behavior in the classroom.
Over the course of a month, participants will meet weekly via Zoom to dive into how executive function (EF) skills—like impulse control, emotional regulation, and task initiation—develop in young children, and how underdeveloped EF skills often show up as behaviors we label as "challenging." Each session builds on the last and includes opportunities for reflection, discussion, real-world application, and collaborative planning.
Session Topics:
What’s Really Going On? Understanding Executive Function and the Roots of Behavior
From Frustration to Insight: Reframing Behavior as Skill Gaps,…
